I started this course with little to no prior knowledge of photoshop and its massive capabilities. I had always drawn traditionally with pencil and paper and so getting used to drawing with a tablet was a challenge for me at first. Over the last 12 weeks I have began to learn not only how to draw digitally, but how to use shortcuts in photoshop and little tricks that speed the processes up.
My favourite subject to study was probably light and shadow. I learnt a lot about not only cast shadows and half tones, but also how to paint skin. These skills will be forever useful to me across all elements of art and animation and therefore that was my favourite study I did. That being said, it was also the hardest to study, as I had never tried to use just shadow and light to create an actual face.
My least favourite was definitely the first character concept I did. I don’t think it’s necessarily bad but I’ve found that digital art is much more like painting, where you use light and shadow to create form and shape – not black outlines.
I also think my writing skills have developed over the course. I was debating whether to change my original two posts’ (character concept and photo manipulation) writing but I decided to leave it to show the progression I have made in not only my digital art skills, but my explanation skills as well.
